Foundations School Community was founded in 1994 by Paula Levy and Sheri Werner. With the dream of forming a progressive educational environment where students could foster a love of learning in a democratic school community, we began with only 14 students.
As FSC’s educational philosophy evolved, we added one grade per year, initially intending to become a K-6th grade school. However, in 2001, we decided to add a middle school, becoming the first K-8th grade progressive school in the San Fernando Valley.
Having made an enormous contribution, Paula Levy moved on from FSC in 2002.
In the summer of 2009, FSC undertook a $25,000 renovation to “spruce up” our current site. In addition to fencing and gating the entire facility, we repainted the outside grounds, added flower boxes, new benches, and other aesthetics to the facility, and renovated the inside of our large auditorium.
FSC, still under the leadership of Sheri Werner, continues to grow. Our staff and Board of Directors are actively engaged in efforts to bring new programs and offerings to our students, and provide more opportunities for families who want to join a diverse, vibrant community committed to the progressive education of children!
