As we understand that applying to schools can feel stressful to parents, we attempt to make our admissions process as thoughtful as possible and respectful to your child as well. The following is a brief overview of our admissions process:
➢ Visit the school for one of our scheduled daytime tours/evening open house. (See our calendar for tour dates and times). Applications are available at the tours and can be submitted by the end of January.
➢ Our director conducts an observation of every child that applies to FSC. Once an application is submitted, our director travels to all preschools/elementary schools to observe applicants in the environment that they are already familiar with and comfortable in. We are observing children to see how they will fit into the classroom at FSC and how we can support and understand their learning style. We are not looking for any specific type of intelligence or performance of the children we observe. Furthermore, we expect that the children are unaware we are observing them.
➢ Meet with the school’s director. Our director will meet with you to provide a one on one opportunity to get to know you better, answer any questions you may have about our school, and discuss parent participation at FSC.
➢ Acceptance. Letters of acceptance go out in March. Once your child has been accepted to FSC, we arrange for him/her to visit the new classroom and teachers at the end of May. During the summer, students and families participate in workdays and the family Back to School Picnic before school starts. At the end of August, the two kindergarten teachers do a one-hour home visit with each incoming student. All of these activities have tremendously helped our incoming kindergarteners with their transition into FSC!
